Friendly staff, nice swimmingpool, cooking area has everything you need, they arrange nice nights out, you can book lots of tours at the reception. Nice, small hostel, recommended!

Nice clean and friendly place. Easy to meet individuals here. Fantastic friendly employees and very useful with tours. No cost tea and coffee. TV and xbox in comfortable lounge, decent cooking area and balcony for eating and drinking.

LOVED our stay at castaways in cairns! We had only booked for a week but ended up extending it to two weeks since we were having such an incredible time! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we had a wonderful encounter at castaways. The staff provide shuttle busses throughout the day as the hostel is around a ten minute walk for the cbd, lagoon and bars and clubs (we walked this about twice a day and it was no problem) they are also on hand with loads of local knowledge and can book trips and tours for you - a lot of of which they&'ve done themselves so can suggest and advise on the extremely best ones. Absolutely nothing is ever too much trouble for these guys. The hostel itself is extremely clean, bonus of your own fridge in the room and free wifi! We enjoyed bbqs and drinks on the balcony but you can be as involved or not as you like, there&'s no pressure. There&'s a large nicely equipped kitchen/dining location and a cozy communal lounge. We made some incredible pals during our stay and really didn&'t want to leave!

The hostel employees is awesome and also the hostel is really clean! It&'s not in the CBD but nonetheless just 10 minutes walk away. They also offer you shuttles, if you don&'t want to walk. Nice pool, Barbeque area and a large balcony. and really important: no bunk beds ;)

Great hostel. Chris and Laura who run it are a excellent help with places to go and points to do. They go above and beyond with looking soon after guests. The property owner should give them a rise.

Quiet, comfy place. Good facilities. Warm and friendly staff. Location no problem, effortless walk into town, Esplanade not far away, shuttle available. I can only recommend this backpacker.
