Customer Review on 13 May 2012
Very warm and friendly and helpful staff. You really get the feeling, they try everything to make your stay as ideal as possible. Perhaps the cleanest Guesthouse in East-Asia. Ideal spot to chill-out and come back to your self after stressfull traveling. The food is of great quality (always fresh and healthy incrediences) and I especially recommend the daily dinner-buffet.

At first, I was a little skeptical of staying here. the reviews and maps noted that the hostel is outside of the city, (in Shuhe instead of Lijiang)- and in order to stay here, I had to book a double bed for two, even though I was by myself- meaning it was twice as expensive as a standard hostel charge for one person However, with that said, this was by far the BEST HOSTEL I have EVER stayed in and it was WORTH EVERY KUAI SPENT. The staff are unbelievably helpful, especially the owner, Peter. I have never met a kinder or more helpful owner. I arrived to the hostel very early that day, coming straight off the train, expecting to simply say hello and store my things in a cabinet. Instead, Peter delightfully said my room was already ready and it was perfectly fine to settle in. Following settling in my room, I wandered downstairs again, where Peter without hesitation gave me a map with suggestions and directions for wandering the cities. He also helped me book a amazing driver for the following day and made sure I was able to see everything I wanted (Yulong mountain and Baisha). And he was providing all of this assistance within the midst of delivering food orders and helping other adventurers. He really wants to make sure each and each person is taken care of and he does a outstanding job! All facilities and rooms are pristine. I should&'ve taken a picture of the toilet as a keepsake because it was so clean- which is rare in China! The beds are very comfy and, as mentioned, all have electric blankets, which was awesome! The food is to die for. In the midst of my Chinese vacation, I started my day off with eggs over hard, homefried potatoes, toast and jam, and pancakes! And I ended my day with a positively mouth watering vegetarian buffet. Let me be clear, I really like meat. Steak and bacon are my favorite foods, but this is some REALLY DELICIOUS veggie food! Lastly, I would like to speak a little on the location. I mentioned I was skeptical of the location. Let me be very frank in stating that Shuhe is by far a much much better stay than Lijiang. Lijiang is noisy, kind of ugly, and overpriced. Shuhe had a much more authentic, small town feel. All of the buildings are classic. There are farms surrounding the city with really really gorgeous mountain scenery. There are no huge generic shopping malls. The same exact trinkets and purses sold in Lijiang are half-price in Shuhe. There are still lots of little late night bars and eating places around center of town. There are still banks and transit. Honestly, I was in Lijiang for about 2-3 hours and I didn&'t like it nearly as much- and Lijiang has been warned about losing its UNESCO rating because its losing its authenicity as an old town. I promise you, you will not regret your stay here!

The very best hostel (or hotel, for that matter) that I&'ve ever stayed in. It looks gorgeous, is situated in Shuhe Old Town, near to Baisha Frescoes, still only a short ride to Lijiang&'s Old Town so you can appreciate all of the attractions. The setting here is simply amazing. Definitely recommended!

This is a fantastic hostel in each way. You really really feel like part of the family. The rooms are clean, cosy and fantastic value for money. Yang was an outstanding and caring host. she also looked soon after me when i had food poisoning for 2 days (given to me by a restaurant down the road). I will be back. most definitely. I wish i could live here.

I loved that it's situated in Shu he Old town, away from LiJiang old town. It's a lovely place and the owner, Peter, is really helpful and friendly. Clean and comfotable and reasonably priced!
