A spectacular location on the Mount of Olives overlooking the Old City and set in a really charming, welcoming, friendly Palestinian village. If you have come for the Old City, for history, culture, religion, then the hotel is ideal. The 6th floor dinning room has a 360 degree panoramic view of the entire Old City, Temple Mount, Valley of Kedron, Mount of Olives and Road to Jericho. It could not have been a lot more atmospheric. The view from my room - even while in bed - was of the Old City illuminated at night and the, turquoise, acquamarine Dome of the Rock. A magnificent view. Shuttles busses and cabs on the primary road outside the hotel take you to Damascus Gate in fifteen mins - for 5 sheckels, and from there the whole city is accessible. The staff exhibited the top of Middle Eastern hospitality, as did the shop keepers in the small grocery across the street, the large fruit shop around the corner which remains open till midnight, the pizza parlor - and even the dentist where I went for a check up. I came for the Christian Holy Week ceremonies and instead found myself immersed in the warmth and charm of Arabic culture at its best. I also met Orthodox Christian travelers from Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Anglicans from NIgeria in the hotel and Jewish travelers arrived for Passover. It was a true multicultural experience. The hotel is a bit worn around the edges and has seen greater days, and it is a bit remote if you wish to go to central Jerusalem, but all in all I found it a profoundly moving experience to stay here, far richer culturaly and religiously than I expected.
