I like the location of this hostel. Everything is close by if you want to get around. If you have any questions about your travel, the staff if very helpful and friendly. I recommend this place if you like staying at a guest house. Its nice and clean.

With a map and direction on this site, it was easy to find. Also the area has cheap good small restaurants. Its very convenient to go to down town and Nara. The living room has a good atmosphere to meet other guests. Overall, Peace House Showa is one of the best hostel place that i've stayed in on my travels.

Everything about Peace House exceeded expectations. If I could give it a better than good rating I would. I was so happy there, from the other patrons, to the wonderful free atmosphere, to the helpful staff. Literally the owner sat and showed us maps of the surrounding area, and gave us ideas for places to go. I will definitely be back here. It was the perfect hostel for us!

Great place to meet people, with everyone in the communal area. Loved the area, a dirt cheap supermarket that looks like its from vegas, loads of kareoke pubs and a red light district right around the corner, all well worth a look at for a good laugh.

I have to say this. If you are one of those who plan to stay a long period, wants to get to know the local area and its people, and like to party with many other travelers, and don't really mind about the convenience or cleanliness of the place you stay, then this is a perfect place for you. The host, Yumi, is a really, really nice and friendly person. Every night there will be a party where you and other traveler can sit down and talk around the table. Very homey and warn atmosphere. However, if you focus your trip on traveling around Japan and most of your day you will have to travel here and there and hope to find a restful and convenient place to have a shower and rest your head and don't want to party, you will find this place not comfortable at all. You have very tiny space of your own, and have to cross to other people's room to go to your own and walk cross a room full of people to go to a bathroom. So if you're this type of traveler, I recommend that you should go to regular hostel like J Hopper. No matter what, I still have to say that the host is very very helpful. She's so nice and give me so many good information to go to places. I still want to thank her for all of that.

A little hard to find but with the explanations on hostelbookers. com it should be no problem. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The accomodation was nice and clean. I'd recommend this hostel to Osaka travellers.

No thanks. Yes, you are staying at a traditional house. However, it is quite cluttered and cramped, and has not been remodeled or organized to suit travelers in any way. The dorms are just tiny little cubbies in a dark, windowless room. Because of the space issues, cleanliness has become quite an issue. The showers were quite scary and stinky, and the kitchen wasn't much better. Shared space is truly tiny. We paid over $50 USD for the two of us to stay here and were frankly appalled at what we received for the money. One of the biggest difficulties was the 6:30PM check in time. We showed up on the train at 3pm on a rainy day, and found out that we would have to PAY for lockers to hold our backpacks for 3. 5 hours before we could check in! It ruined our whole afternoon in Osaka, having to go back and forth from the hotel to check in. The owner, Yumi, was very kind, and I'm sad to say that her bright attitude wasn't enough to make me overlook the hotel's shortcomings. We ended up being upgraded to a larger private room, which was extremely kind, but then we found we didn't have enough sheets to cover our mattress! Ick! I don't really know what more to say. The price is quite high, and the convenience of this place is pretty low. There are many other more value-friendly places to stay in Osaka, I suggest you check your options carefully.

 Customer Review  -  23 January 2010

It is overcrowded - the shower/toilet facilities do not compare with hostels where u pay the same price. There is no where to even put your backpack that u will not have to move it - rooms interlead each other - it appears one of the toilets is through a guys/mixed dorm - the other is downstairs. The common room is too small should half the residents decide to congregate. Shower facilities / room - no heating - so by the time u are dressed in a space where there is no where to put yr dry clothes - u are freezing. The hostel should be charging at least half what the other hostel are charging i. e. 1250 yen a night. The Peace house is so cluttered - one wonders when or how they clean anything - this includes the kitchen. I do not want to put my name as this is entirely my opinion - in fact we did not stay the second night - we traveled onto Nagoya where we stay in Kyoya Ryokan - which charges the same and is fantastic value for money.

It's good if travelers doesn't care about the quality of it, it's a cheap place with standard things for needs. the staff is surprise nice, the only problem is the cleanness which is only ok

 Customer Review  -  26 December 2009

This place was difficult to find at first. It is located in a small alley. It is pretty much someone's house, a 2-story house, japanese-style. free-internet and heated room.
