Customer Review on 22 January 2012
Lovely restored old home within the Fes medina. Location was ideal inside the Medina. Steve, the owner, and his employees were really welcoming and helpful, couldn&'t do enough. Outstanding value for money. Room extremely high quality. Can&'t recommend it enough.

Dar Houdou is a brilliantly restored guesthome İdeally located in the Medina near the Blue Gate. The owner is hospitable and friendly, as are the staff members. The guest room located on the rooftop rooftop is particularly wonderful, offering a nice, quiet, cool respite from the busy streets of the Medina. Also the owner, Steve, and one of his staff, Mohammed, went out of their way to help me when (on the day I was supposed to leave and return to Casablanca) my rental car wouldn&'t start. They worked with the local parking lot attendant to get my car jump started. And, they contacted a mechanic, and Mohammed as properly as the mechanic brought me to a gas station exactly where I filled up, and they made sure my car started. And, Steve contacted me via email to create sure I made it to Casablanca ok. Really, an all-star cast!

I was really impressed with Dar Houdou accommodations, specially the breakfast which was superb and the best one we had in Morocco. (Cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, crispy bread, cookies, tea, jellies. ) Mohammed was extremely king and helpful. Location is excellent, inside the Medina and extremely close to the Blue Gate and a lot of restaurants. Very clean, comfortable and elegant. It is a extremely small Hostel, therefore, if you want socialization with other travellers which is not your best option, but other than that, it was one of the best Hostels I have ever been. The owner, Steve, went above and beyond arranging a cab to pick us up extremely early inside the morning from the bus station and giving us the room prior to the usual check in time. Loved everything about this place! Angela

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, beautifully restored, great location, lovely rooms with great hot water, very good wireless and terrific breakfast. All you could want. Oh- and great official guides will be arranged by Mohammed to save you getting hassled. Just tell them what you wish to see- learned so much.

This riad is in center of the medina, only a 2 minute walk from the Blue Gate. PERFECT location! When we arrived we were given so much helpful info and Mohammed, the manager went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Mohammed also got us in touch with an official guide, Khalid, who gave us an amazing tour that taught us much about Fes. This property is clean, the breakfast is delicious and each day felt like a little piece of home!

We are 4 Canadian backpackers usually looking for 15-25 euro per night accommodations. This guest house usually asks for a higher price, but we lucked out as it was the off season. We have never felt the need to review a hotel before, but this guest house did such an amazon job at making our stay cozy that we felt the need to share our experience. You&'ll be lucky if Steve the property owner is in town! He went above and beyond what he needed to do. He showed us around multiple times, often making sure we knew how to navigate the maze of streets to locate our way home. He was funny, down to earth, and warm throughout our entire stay. The guest house is beautiful. It was recently restored, so everything is new and in excellent condition. Modern bath rooms in each room and a contemporary kitchen. The breakfasts were the really best we had all trip. Fresh fruit, bread, jams, etc. The onsite manager arranged a tour for us with a guide. It was incredible. I have heard of other hostels arranging tours with guides who are only really interested in selling you goods. This guest house uses legit guides who care about their city and show it off well. The housekeeper did our laundry for us free of charge. She was really warm and friendly also. All in all I would HIGHLY suggest this guest house to any age group. Our group is 24 years old and we had an excellent time. One of the other rooms had a mother and daughter stayin there who were around 40 and 70 - this really is an excellent place for everyone as the guest house, location, and staff made for the excellent introduction to morocco, making us really feel safe and welcome.

We had a wonderful stay at Dar Houdou. Steve is a extremely welcoming host, he and Mohammed (who organised the heroic breakfasts) made us really feel extremely welcome. Extremely tucked away but actualy close to primary Medina gate, an superb base from which to discover old Fez. The roof top rooftop was secluded and romantic, and it was welcome to be able to use the kitchen to have a break from eating out. Food markets nearby provided all the necessary ingredients. A pretty Riad.
