I loved staying on the Vita Nova! What a special encounter to stay on a canal boat! The staff was very nice, when we arrived in the evening and hadn&'t found an ATM to pay for our room (they only accept cash) she just told us to pay in the morning instead of sending us out for one right then. She also put us in a nicer, larger room than we had reserved because it is the off season for travellers and we were staying for longer than usual (4 nights) Yes, the cabins are small- but they are clean, warm, comfortable, and secure. (and on a boat! ) The alternative for a comparable price is to stay very far from the city center or in a sketchy filthy hostel dorm room above a sex club in the red light district. So, I think the hotel boats are by far the finest deal to be had in Amsterdam! We were sad to leave, and will stay there again should we be in Amsterdam again! A note on a couple negative things that others said- we didn&'t have any issues with stinky bathrooms, there is a porthole that was cracked open so it was chilly in the toilet but never stinky. The first morning we did have smelly water from the tap briefly but it was very brief and I think it was whilst the sewage tanks on the boat were being emptied. Otherwise I drank the tap water there to no ill effects. I can&'t imagine why anyone has complained about the breakfast- for that price in the US in case you got any breakfast it would be dry toast and coffee. Vita Nova has a selection of different types of breads and crackers, meats, cheeses, coffee, tea, juice, milk, 4-5 cereals, fruit, marshmallows, yogurt and various spreads. That&'s a pretty very good included breakfast!

Lovely boat. Tiny but super cozy! Decently clean, and definitely the finest option for someone who&'s not willing to deal with the &"uncertainties&" of a hostel!

Location is 15 mins from Centraal, superb directions. Got a tip for more reasonably priced bicycle rental (much more reasonably priced than Mike Bike at Centraal). Breakfast is completely fantastic! Rooms serve the purpose. Upper deck view great. Fantastic value for money, especially considering other prices.

I really loved the expertise of living on a botel! The botel was maintained really nicely and it was a extremely safe environment to be in. Most of all, you wake to a beautiful sunrise and a great view everyday. The heating was much more than sufficient for winter, and breakfast was great! Location is great too, most exciting sights are within walking distance.

The rooms were clean and very warm - we were staying inside the middle of winter and it was freezing outside. The location was great, less than a 10 min walk to the principal station, principal street and red light district. Breakfast was served every morning and whilst it was only a continental breakfast there was a great choice of cereals, spreads and meats/cheeses. The owner was very warm and friendly and was always around if you needed help. Definitely GREAT value for money.
