Only cost-effective spot for a weekend in Amsterdam. Not too inconvenient given it&'s so far away (only 15mins by train to Amsterdam, && 10mins from station by bus). Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.

The location is really picturesque, but outside city centre. The room was large and clean. The breakfast was excellent. There were table games in a common room.

As with most HI hostels I've experienced, this one was well organised, good standards of cleanliness, and doesn't claim to be anything that it its not. However if you are traveling alone and you wish to meet other travelers this isn't a great place. Having said that I guess Haarlem isn't a traveling Mecca (theres one of those 15 miles down the road! ), and will provide a nice chilled town in which to relax after Amsterdam perhaps. The bar area is quite good, and the patio by the canal is nice. There is a pool table for 1euro a game. Bikes can be hired for about 10euros and the hostel is well situated for a ride to the sand dunes, or to the North Sea.
