The Independente Hostel & Suites

The Independente is like a boutique hotel. Gorgeous decor, really friendly staff, SO clean. The hot chocolate at breakfast is fab! (The Portuguese don&'t do that powder and hot water nonsense) Great location too. walk for ten seconds and you&'re within the centre of Bairro Alto. And only a brief walk to the Metro, train station, tram links etc. The Independente was the cherry on top of our AMAZING few days in Lisbon.

It is really close to the centre of the city, with a fantastic view of the whole lisboa, near to a lot of bars for people who wish to enjoy the night life of Lisboa. The employees was really friendly and helpfull, and it is really low price for the items it offers. I strongly suggest this hostel!

Everything is perfect. They have a restaurant, a bar and a louge to entertain. Bedroom is big, clean and staff are very friendly.

The staff were so friendly and nice. They also supply yummy breakfast and I enjoyed getting to know with others staying in the same room with me. In case you are looking for partying or drinking at bars, then the hostel is extremely near Bairro Alto, where there are a lot of bars, I am not a drinker though.

Very cool and hip atmosphere. Facilities really enchanting and properly cleaned daily. Amazing, free breakfast in the morning. Convenient bar and restaurant in the downstairs. Located in Bairro Alto with fantastic points of interest of the city and decent central location.

Very comfortable mattresses. All the employees I met was super warm and friendly and helpful. When I arrived at 10am they let me check in right away, called a taxi for me when I left. The issue is they seemed to be severely understaffed. Almost each and every time I entered the lobby there was no one behind the reception desk because the one person on duty was running around taking care of 20 other things. Out of the three nights I stayed, there was only one other person in my 9-bed room on 2 of the nights, so that was some unexpected privacy. However, it definitely didn&'t help to meet anyone. The neighborhood is good, but you&'ll see that there are lots of hostels in and around Bairro Alto (and on much quieter streets). The bar/restaurant is also quite nice and very nicely decorated. It seemed like the owners were having such a great time running the restaurant that the hostel upstairs became an afterthought. Maybe they should focus on that.

Very nice and friendly employees who made my stay in Lisboa really pleasant. Breakfast was really delicious for a hostel breakfast! The rooms are clean and the setting there is nice and old fashioned (furniture and decorations, cool! ). Definitely good value for money!
