Very friendly, nice and helpful staff; good location; quiet and calm spot (however a bit noisy in case you have a room with a window to the street); clean place; kettle + mugs within the room.

The employees were incredibly friendly and helpful. The location was in walking distance to the Grassmarket area, and also the Royal Mile. The hotel and rooms were extremely clean, and also the room service was extremely prompt.

This was my second stay at Herald House. I had booked a single room, but was given a great spacious double at at the single rate. The hotel was clean and comfortable, and also the employees warm and friendly and helpful. A cooked breakfast with a great choice, now becoming a rarity at budget hotels in Edinburgh. This hotel deserves much more than two stars.

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The staff was extremely warm and friendly and helpful as well as the rooms were nice and clean. The breakfast was great! The walk to the Royal Mile took about 15-20 minute which was a little inconvenient, but a taxi cab ride was extremely cheap. The bus station to the airport was a short walk away. This hotel had a nice setting and I would definitely stay here again! Much more so a hotel than a hostel. In case you are interested in a nice and noiseless spot to stay, this is it. There weren&'t a lot of people hanging around, so in case you are looking to meet people and party then this is probably not the spot for you.
