The staff is friendly and helpful, the price is affordable compared to the NY average. The bathrooms were quite clean, along with the neighbourhood is not so sketchy following all (other user comment). Unless, you are a racist of some sort, you would not really feel threatened by the area. Also, the bed did not have bugs (other user comment), or at least, if any, I did not really feel it.

The sheets were clean and there were no bed bugs (I checked). Also, the common area/kitchen is really nice. Also, I had never been to Harlem but I found the location to be a total nonissue.

I&'ve already been staying at dozens of different hostels all over Europe, but this was my first stay in a hostel inside the United States. I was not sure about how the location would be, especially after reading some of the previous comments on this page. However, I have to say that the hostel ended up being a best choice. Although situated on the northern side of Central Park, you&'re only 15 minutes away from Times Square (taking the subway). The neighborhood is just lovely, it&'s a very nice component of Harlem, we always felt entirely save and secure. The hostel is very well-equipped, you&'ll have everything you need, from a nice, clean bathroom to a fully-equipped kitchen and wireless network connection (sometimes it doesn&'t work inside the evenings due to overuse inside the area, but this is one thing typical in New York). The rooms are small but cozy (we loved the kingsize double bed - my favorite matress so far). The common lounge area of the apartments capabilities a TV, a large couch and a dining table. It gets crowded sometimes (in our case, especially around 11AM and 8PM, but this depends on who else is staying inside your apartment) but is always spacious enough for everybody to sit down and relax. In general, your stay will always partly depend on who else is staying inside the hostel, but in our case the people were nice and there was NO bathroom shortage at all! (This also happened to me far more than once on my previous trips). We were lucky enough to meet David (the owner of the place), who gave us tons of great tips on what to see and do in New York - even printing us out all of the maps or writing down the directions himself. Without him, our trip certainly wouldn&'t have been as great as it was. THANKS SO MUCH, DAVID! To put it in a nutshell: If you&'re looking for a cheap spot to stay in New York, this is an outstanding adress which won&'t disappoint you! Y U NO BOOK RIGHT NOW ;-)

The staff here were very useful and kind. The nearby subway line was also extremely handy for commuting downtown. There was a lot of attention paid to ensuring the travelers felt comfy during their stay which was nice to see!
