We were very disappointed with AdmiralBenbow Hostel. We had booked two beds in the hostel three weeks before we were to arrive in St Petersburg. When we arrived we were firstly ignored, after attracting their attention we were told that there were no beds available to us. (which apparently was very funny for all but us!) We were quite upset and he offered us no apology or explanation. He told us to go to another hostel which he said was HIS other hostel. This was not the case, when we arrived at the next hostel (which was actually someone's share house) they told us they had nothing to do with Admiral Benbow hostel. We then realised that Admiral Benbow had our deposit. When we went to collect it a woman told us she could not help us (even though she worked there) and she refused to call her boss but said he woud be in the next day. We returned the next day when the boss was there and he began to lie to us teing us that the boss would be back at 5pm ect. After much time wasted he reluctantly handed over the money. Not once did he apologise for what had happened. The hostel itself was quite shabby, and did not appear as it does in the photos. Please if you wish to spend a pleasant time in St. Petersburg, do not stay here!

Once i got to know the staff (because of all the issues with several attempts to make registration), the staff were the best part. Also very good is the proximity to railway station Moscova which has the trains running Moscow-St. Pete
